Robinia posts are known for their exceptional durability and natural appearance. They are widely used for fences, playground equipment, and landscaping projects. However, there is often confusion about one important factor: the thickness of the post. Not all Robinia posts are measured in the same way, and this can make a significant difference in quality and strength.
Natural posts are never perfectly round
Robinia is a natural product, which means no two posts are exactly alike. The trunk often tapers, being thicker at one end and thinner at the other. This makes the question of where you measure the diameter crucial for determining how robust the post actually is.
Measuring at the thickest point vs. measuring in the middle
Some suppliers measure the diameter of Robinia posts at the thickest point, usually at one end of the post, often tapering to the narrowest tip. On paper, the post may appear impressively thick, but in practice, the middle section – which represents most of the post – can be significantly thinner.
We deliberately choose a different, fairer measurement method:
the diameter of our Robinia posts is measured at the middle of the post.
What does this mean for quality?
Measuring at the middle provides a more realistic picture of the post’s actual strength. This means:
- The post is sturdier along its entire length
- The strength better matches the stated size
- There is less risk of thin or weak sections
In practice, our posts are often stronger and more reliable than posts measured at their thickest point, even if those posts appear equally thick—or even thicker—on paper.
Transparency and quality
We believe clear communication and honest measurements are essential for natural products like Robinia wood. By measuring the middle of the post, you know exactly what you’re getting and avoid surprises during installation or use.
In short: with Robinia posts, it’s not just the diameter that matters—it’s where that diameter is measured. And that’s exactly where we make the difference.
